1. If you are looking for a free accounting software, Microsoft offers for free download their Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2007 product http://www.ideawins.com/
2. You dont really need specific software for small business accounting, Microsoft Excell works amazing, as long as you know how to use it and set it out properly it can calculate all your expenses, turnover, outgoings etc, i know alot of people who use excel.
3. i've heard that MYOB (mind your own business) is good but i'm not sure if you can get it free, try asking your local business link office or any local business enterprise agencies if they have access to any free or heavily discounted accounting software you could have.
4. check out these shareware sites. The are free to try, and if you like it very cheap to purchase. I hope this helps.
5. You can downlaod MYOB for free...trial version will last 3 months. You can purchase Business Basics for about $100 no extra yearly charges - and it should be sufficient for the sole trader.
