- take some courses at your local community college
- Im the same as you. I started a college course 3 years ago and found I really liked accounts but accountancy firms wont usually take you on untill you have at least started a degree in the subject. Im currently just starting my second year at Uni doing a BA Accounts and Business. If you are on Family tax credits you will probably get your studying for free. If not you will get some help from ILA. Most Universities do evening courses like I am doing. Good luck,
- first learn to add and subtract
- If you can (to save money) try to take accounting courses at a community college.....you can go for either an Associates degree in Accounting or you can go for a Bachelor's and then go a fifth year option which will help you qualify to take the CPA exam (depending on if you wish to go into public accounting) but if you wish to go into private accounting (the minmum is an associate degree in Accounting) and actally if you go into private accounting, you might only need to take a few accounting classes (knowing how to do payroll and knowledge of Excel will help alot) also quite a few business use Quickbooks which is a really easy program to use (having a knowledge of Quickbooks will also open a lot of doors for you job-wise) experience with a 10 key is also helpful
- You can study ACCA, AAT, CIMA and I know there's a few more out there. Google the course and look up the entry requirements on the site. You won't need a degree to study them but I think you might need A' Levels - in which case economics, maths or business studies would be a good start.
