Online Business Accounting

Is 26 too old to begin a career in public accounting ?

It will raise questions about my charecter, why didn't you do it sooner, why have you been doing these things that are not accounting ? How do I overcome these hurdles and have a successful career ? Will it dog me forever even if I am successful at getting a job ? Any advice ?

  1. Remember what the Python Boys say: Sailing Away, Sailing Away. It's fun to charter an accountant And sail the wild accountancy To find, explore, the funds offshore and scourge the sholls of bankruptcy. It can be manly in insurance, we'll up your premium semi-annually. It's all tax deductable, we're fairly incorruptable. We're sailing on the wide accountancy. Sailing Away, Sailing Away.
  2. You're worrying too much about it. You aren't going to get younger. I'd be more concerned with letting opportunities pass by. I got started in finance at about 26 myself. I was in the Marines for 8 years though so it delayed college just a little. Point is, if that is what you want, do it.
  3. Your never to old to follow your dreams, your 26 - not on the verge of retirement. If you don't do it then you may well find yourself regretting it at a later date.
  4. I'm not sure where you are getting these ideas called hurdles. So far you have not mentioned one hurdle just nonsense. My concern with your character is you may not have what it takes. And to answer your question at 26 years old you have just barely started your life in the real world. There are people that change careers at all ages even in their 60's. You need to call this number and just listen 1-641-715-3800 use access code 823754# then enter extension 13. One of the best motivational speeches of all time!
  5. Absolutely not! Check out the AICPA (www.aicpa.org) for information on becoming a CPA. In fact, they might find your previous work experience helpful. Get started--you should be fine. By comparison, I have two friends who chose to become lawyers after they were FORTY. Both of them completed their law degrees and got good jobs and have careers they love at a good salary.
