Online Business Accounting

Would majoring in Business Adm. or Accounting benefit me more if I hope to start my own business someday?

I've heard people say that Business Administration is very broad and not worth it. I'm going to start my own business ultimately, but I want to have a degree that I can fall back on if for whatever reason I cannot obtain it as soon as I hope or if I decided against it someday. Would an Accounting degree be my best bet? Does accounting deal with a lot of the same classes as BSBA?

  1. Business Admin is very broad - covers all topics like Marketing, Management, Accounting, Finance, IT, etc. So if you want to start your own business, you need to know about all of these things. If you are concerned about having something to fall back on, I can think of two possibilities: 1. Major in Business Adm with a minor in Accounting (if your school allows it) 2. Major in Accounting, work for a year or two and then go back and get your MBA...after that you would be prepared to start your own business (and have a job while your business is gearing up) Good Luck!
  2. It sounds like Bus. Admin. would suit you best. Either would be a great skill and offer you alternatives if the business falls through but if you want to start your own business the Bus Admin degree will offer you a wider scope of info necessary to run a business. Sales, personell management, marketing, and many other aspects will be covered.
